Synopsis

This 4-hour mini-series tells the powerful story of an historical ice hockey match-up between Canada’s top NHL players and the best of the Soviet Union.  Although the two countries had often faced each at the amateur level, most Canadians believe that the Soviets amateur players are no match for the pros.  But after Team Canada is badly beaten in the first game it must fight to recover in a series that will change hockey forever.

CANADA RUSSIA '72 is shot in a fluid documentary style that effectively captures all the immediacy of the 1972 hockey summit’s intrigues. This exciting recreation of the hockey series that spawned an enduring national myth about determination, pride, and heart also features a soundtrack of Canada’s greatest hits of the era, including songs by The Guess Who, Crowbar, Lighthouse, Leonard Cohen, The Five Man Electrical Band, The Poppy Family and The Band.
